Permanent Hair Reduction
Hirsutism (HUR-residue-iz-um) is a condition of undesirable, male-pattern hair development in women on parts of the body where hair is typically missing or negligible. Hirsutism causes the development of stiff and dark body hair, showing up on the body where men regularly develop hair — face, chin, chest, and back.
If you have a problem of too much hair growth in unwanted places, then we recommend you to undergo laser hair reduction. At the skin clinic we use Deka again and Lumenis diode laser, which is currently state-of-the-art, most reliable and the safest device for laser hair reduction. The advantage of this diode device is that it has 2 handpieces, suitable for different kinds of hair, from dense and coarse to fine. It does the job inflicting minimal pain even on larger areas, like the underarms and abdomen.
Laser Hair Reduction Procedure
The signature laser hair reduction procedures at the skin clinic , is based on clinically proven FDA approved laser technologies . With this device, laser light targets the dark pigment of the hair. A beam of highly concentrated light (laser) is passed over your skin. It heats the hair structure. The intense heat damages the hair follicle called melanin, which causes the hair to drop and stops it from being produced further.
Laser Hair Reduction with DEKA AGAIN
The Skin Clinic offers painless hair reduction and removal with DEKA AGAIN — the world leader in hair reduction which has speed and power that is suitable for all skin types and all hair forms — from dense to fine. It is the only system in the world that uses 755 mm Alexandrite wavelength as an in-motion technology that is highly effective for fine hair removal. It also has a long-pulse Nd:YAG laser that uses 1064nm wavelength for darker skin types.
Additionally, we have the LightSheer Diode Laser by Lumenis which completes the entire array of lasers for hair reduction — from the fairest to the darkest skin types and from the thinnest to the thickest hair types! The treatments have no side effects. In fact, you get the added benefit of skin rejuvenation because of the heat delivered to the skin! And your skin will get further rejuvenated by the reduction of ingrown hairs and follicular prominences.
But I have tried lasers before, and they don’t seem to work!
In such cases, treating the cause of unwanted hair growth becomes as important as the treatment with laser. We recommend you to do a complete medical evaluation with a dermatologist to see if there is an underlying hormonal problem.
Also, choosing the type of laser and its technicality is crucial. If the right energy is not used it could stimulate hair growth. At the skin clinic we make use of diode , alexandrite and ndyag lasers , which is currently which are considered the best when it comes to dealing with the issue of unwanted hair.
I want to remove unwanted hair from different areas of my body? I am tired of repeated waxing/threading. What can I do?
Laser hair reduction is an excellent choice of treatment for you. Depending on the area, thickness of hair and skin color, your dermatologist will select the best laser and laser parameters for you. At The Skin Clinic, we offer 3 different types of laser to treat a various hair and skin types. We have the Lumenis Lightsheer Duet which is a diode laser and the Deka Again Platform which offers the Alexandrite laser and the long pulsed Nd:Yag Laser.
I have hormonal issues and thus have thick hair growth. Will it work for me?
Laser hair reduction devices were designed keeping in mind patients such as yourself. You will require more number of sessions than the average person but you will be able to see excellent reduction in the thickness and number of hair.
So what are the number of sessions required and how often is it required? Also, why is it called as reduction and not removal?
Usually 6-8 sessions will be required at a gap of 4-6 weeks. After this, maintenance sessions will be required. Initially it will be more often at around 4-5 times in a year. Later, the number of sessions will eventually space out depending on your growth. However, your dermatologist will review you at each session and further advise what the interval gap should be. It is called as reduction and not removal because there is no laser technology currently available to completely stop hair growth. Some hair will always grow, but it will be very fine and very slow.
I have heard that laser sessions are very painful. Is this true?
Pain is always relative. What is painful for you will not be painful for another person. The lasers that we offer have special cooling technologies so as to minimize the discomfort that is associated with laser technology.
What are the side-effects associated with the procedure?
There are minimal side-effects associated with the procedure provided you follow the pre procedure and post procedure instructions given by your treating dermatologist. That is why you should always consult the doctor prior to starting laser hair reduction. Dryness, existing rashes and tanned skin can lead to side-effects. Also, the effect of the laser is only up to your skin. It will not penetrate to your deeper organs. So it is completely safe.
If I have a function in between sessions, can I remove the hair by traditional methods like threading or waxing?
When you are undergoing laser hair reduction, it is important not to do anything that removes the root of the hair or alters the pigment of the hair. So do not do waxing, threading, plucking or bleaching. In case of any events, you can shave or trim the hair, in between sessions.
Can I do laser hair reduction if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Laser hair reduction is best avoided during pregnancy and three months after delivery. This is because during this period there are a lot of hormonal variations that occur that can influence the hair growth.
My mother has thick white hair growing on her chin. Can she do laser hair reduction?
Laser hair reduction will not work on white hair. It is only effective for pigmented hair. For white hair, an alternative procedure is done where each individual follicle will have to be treated.
Can men also get laser hair reduction?
Yes, men can also get laser hair reduction done. But a greater number of sessions will be required. Popular sites include back, chest, neck and beard areas.
How many treatments will i take for complete permanent hair reduction
Please be aware that it is permanent hair reduction and not removal. According to hormonal profile of patient and/ or thickness of original hair to begin with – the number of treatments to reduce hair in density and texture varies . However a minimum of 6-8 sessions at 1 month interval is advised following which mandatory maintenance sessions are done for permanent reduction of fine hair .
How often do we have to take regular and maintenance treatments?
Depending on the hormonal profile and the thickness of the hair to begin with , the first set of treatments can be done at 1 month interval following which the maintenance sessions can be spaced out .
What are side effects
There are no side effects, provided you take the recommended post-procedure care with a good moisturizing sunscreen.
